Join the SES
To become a volunteer you need to be aged 16 and over. If you are aged 16 - 18 there are restrictions on what activities you can perform and parental consent considerations also. If you are interested in finding out more or applying to become a member of the unit, contact the Parramatta unit directly via the contact details provided on this website and arrange a visit to the local headquarters (LHQ). Our usual method for persons interested in joining is for you to attend the LHQ and see where we are, meet our members, ask any questions about our activities as well as help us understand your reasons for wanting to join. You will be given a Membership Application Package which you can take home to read and complete. If you wish to submit your application for then you can arrange to attend an interview with the unit Controller. You will need to bring to your interview 100 points of identification and to consent to a criminal history record check.
Once you have received a letter of advice regarding this check you may commence training with the Unit. All new volunteers undergo a minimum 3 month probationary period in which both yourself and the controller can assess commitment and suitability to the role.
All SES volunteers are issued with personal protective equipment including orange overalls or two piece suit, jackets, boots, helmet, gloves, hat and eye protection. Additional equipment may be supplied after successful completion of specialized training.
Do you want to support your community, and are willing to commit to one training night each week, storm response activities as well as several other days helping with unit commitments such as fundraising and community education? If so, contact us by ringing the unit directly to discuss opportunities within the Parramatta SES.
